When you get more used to cooking you will be able to measure by dashes and pinches. I think a dash or a pinch is a little under a teaspoon.

When measuring brown sugar always pack it down with your fingers so the cup is solid with sugar. Once packed use something flat like the back of a knife to level it off.

Powdered sugar is messy but should be measured correctly. You can make your own powdered sugar if you have a high speed blender like the kind you use for making malts or other drinks. Just place 1 cup of regular sugar in the blender with 1 tablespoon of cornstarch to keep it loose and fluffy. Turn the blender on high until it turns to powdered sugar.
